Singapore has the highest COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Southeast Asia. According to Our World in Data, as of June 21, 2021, 50.8% of Singapore's population had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 35.2% had received both doses.
Cambodia is in second place, with 23.7% of its population having received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by June 27, 2021. Only 17.2% of the Cambodian population had received both doses.
Malaysia, Brunei, and Laos follow, with over ten percent of their populations having received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of June 26, 2021. However, the proportion of their populations fully vaccinated (two doses) remains below 10%.
Indonesia, as of June 27, 2021, had administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 9.9% of its population. Only 4.8% of the population had received both doses.
Given its relatively high vaccination coverage, Singapore is preparing a blueprint to allow its citizens to coexist with the coronavirus. According to The Straits Times, Singapore will treat the coronavirus as an endemic disease, similar to the flu. The hope is that people will be able to work and travel without quarantine or regional restrictions.
