This week's Covid-19 statistics in Africa show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, two countries recorded an increase in deaths, while seven others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, and Seychelles. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, September 7, 2022, amounted to 14, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
South Africa ranks first, with a 250 percent weekly increase in deaths. Worldometer recorded seven deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported two deaths.
Zimbabwe follows with a 200 percent weekly growth in deaths. Three deaths were reported in this country, compared to one the previous week.
Among the top five, deaths in Ethiopia decreased by 0%, Ivory Coast recorded two deaths (unchanged from the previous week), and deaths in Seychelles decreased by 0%.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in South Africa with seven deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 250% compared to last week. Following that, the highest number of deaths in Zimbabwe was recorded at three, up 200%; deaths in Ivory Coast were recorded at two, down 0%; Morocco recorded two deaths (down 33.33%); and Ethiopia recorded one death (unchanged from the previous week).
Total deaths in Africa over the past seven days were recorded at 16. This accounts for 0.14 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 11,622. The number of deaths in Africa decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 30 deaths.
