The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.6 million cases by Wednesday, June 14, 2023. China (PRC) ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 6.33 percent. GISAID recorded 35,730 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.16 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Kenya, which recorded a 4.2 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 0.35 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Vietnam increased by 3.37 percent to 6,167 cases compared to the previous week; in Singapore, they increased by 2.85 percent to 25,600 cases; and in Iran (Islamic Republic), they increased by 1.64 percent to 2,226 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, as of Wednesday, June 14, 2023, there were 38,236 Omicron cases, a 0.06 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
