Worldometers data shows that daily Covid-19 deaths in Indonesia reached 1,280 cases on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 02:56 GMT. This is the highest in Asia, surpassing India, which had 489 daily Covid-19 deaths.
The next highest daily Covid-19 death tolls in Asia were Myanmar with 286 cases, followed by Iran with 250 cases.
Bangladesh and Malaysia followed with 200 and 93 daily Covid-19 deaths respectively. Thailand and Kazakhstan reported 80 and 65 cases respectively.
Government Spokesperson for Covid-19 Handling, Wiku Adisasmito, stated that the high number of Covid-19 deaths is due to the increase in active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia. He said the government is currently seeking solutions to this problem, including increasing healthcare facilities to handle patients as early as possible.
The government continues to urge the public to adhere to health protocols to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The public needs to wash their hands with soap, wear masks, and maintain physical distancing. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility are also crucial in suppressing Covid-19 transmission.
