The activities of the populations of Egypt and Pakistan have returned to normal levels as they were before the Covid-19 pandemic. This was reported by *The Economist* in a report titled *The Global Normalcy Index*.
*The Global Normalcy Index* provides a general overview of global citizen activity amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The index score is on a scale of 0-100, where a score of 100 indicates that citizen activity has returned to normal levels as before the pandemic.
According to *The Economist*, Pakistan and Egypt have recorded normalcy indices exceeding 100, namely 106.1 and 102.7 respectively, as of February 11, 2022.
This normalcy index consists of eight indicators compiled into three major categories, namely:
1. Transportation and Travel
The transportation and travel category includes data on public transportation activity in major cities, traffic congestion, and the number of domestic and international flight passengers.
2. Recreation and Entertainment
The recreation and entertainment category consists of data on the duration people spend outdoors, cinema box office revenue, and the intensity of citizens attending sporting events.
3. Retail and Work
This category is compiled from data on retail shopping activity and office employee occupancy rates.
Indonesia Not Yet Normal
*The Economist* summarized the normalcy index from 50 countries with the largest economies and populations, including Indonesia.
Indonesia ranked 31st globally with a normalcy index of 65. Indonesia's normalcy level is considered low because domestic and international flight activity remains very limited. The average flight index figure as of February 11, 2022, in Indonesia was only 9.3 out of 100.
Globally, the world's normalcy index score stands at 73 out of 100. Some activities that are starting to recover are retail shopping and spending time outdoors.
