This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 18 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 13 other countries recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Sweden, Moldova, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Romania. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, December 26, 2022, amounted to 86, with a weekly growth exceeding 47.62 percent.
Sweden recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 300 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded four deaths, an increase of 80.95 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Sweden is Moldova, with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 250 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as seven, compared to two the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, the Netherlands saw a 250% increase in deaths, Estonia recorded 23 deaths (a 53.33% increase), and Romania saw a 47.62% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany, with 884 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 3.7% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, France reported 713 deaths (an increase of 8.69%), Italy reported 498 deaths (an increase of 5.73%), Russia reported 383 deaths (a decrease of 1.54%), and the UK reported 380 deaths (an increase of 21.02%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was 3,638. This accounts for 33.93 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,721. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,482 deaths.
