The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) calculated the percentage distribution of imports to Indonesia from January to May 2023.
For the ASEAN region, BPS stated that Singapore played the largest role, accounting for 36.76% of total ASEAN imports.
Outside of regional calculations, the value of Singapore's imports to Indonesia was recorded at nearly US$7 million in May 2023. This value decreased from US$8.03 million in the same period the previous year (year-on-year/yoy).
Thailand ranked second with a 23.93% share. Imports from Thailand reached US$4.55 million in May 2023, down from US$4.95 million (yoy).
Malaysia was third, holding a 23.47% share. Imports from Malaysia reached US$4.46 million in May 2023, down from US$5.02 million in the same period in 2022.
Vietnam was fourth with an 11.22% share, followed by the Philippines in fifth place with 3.31%.
"Meanwhile, imports from Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia each accounted for less than 1%," wrote BPS in its report.
BPS explained that of Indonesia's total imports during January-May 2023, 71.5% originated from the top ten countries of origin.
China ranked first, accounting for 27.86% of Indonesia's total imports. The next largest import origin country was Singapore at 7.63%, followed by Japan at 7.51%.
