A report from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) shows that Jakarta has the highest bed occupancy rate (BOR) for COVID-19 at 30%. One of the contributing factors is the increasing spread of the Omicron variant in the capital city.
Although the highest nationally, Jakarta's COVID-19 hospital BOR percentage remains below the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of 60%.
The national average BOR for designated COVID-19 referral hospitals was 7% as of Sunday, January 23, 2022. This figure is a 5% increase compared to the previous month, which was only 2%.
After Jakarta, Banten has the second-highest COVID-19 hospital BOR at 8%, followed by West Java at 6%. Next are Yogyakarta and North Sulawesi, each with a 5% BOR.
The increase in hospital BOR coincides with a surge in coronavirus infection cases. Based on data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, there were 18,891 active coronavirus cases in Indonesia on Sunday, January 23, 2022. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is 4.28 million, with 3.36% resulting in death and 96.19% recovering.
Therefore, the public is urged to diligently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. These health protocols are crucial in preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
