Today, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, four provinces recorded record daily increases in COVID-19 deaths: West Java, Riau, North Sumatra, and North Kalimantan. All regions broke their daily records for this year. In West Java, the increase in deaths today was four times higher than yesterday. The record refers to the current number compared to previous periods in each province to determine the highest point.
The latest figures released this afternoon show 491 deaths in West Java. Previously, an increase of 300 deaths was recorded on July 27th, after which the death toll gradually decreased this week to its lowest point. However, today's news is shocking, with a sudden and drastic surge in deaths. The highest previous increase was recorded on Saturday, March 27th, when the number of deaths rose from one to 102.
Data for West Java province shows that, as of yesterday, Monday, the largest number of COVID-19 sufferers were in the adult age group (31-45 years), totaling 176,370 people. Despite the surge in deaths, the Ministry of Health notes a decrease in infections over the past week. The weekly confirmed positive case rate per 100,000 people fell from 85.3 to 50.4 cases. The concern in this region is the high number of deaths per 100,000 people, as seen today. West Java ranks among the top three nationally in this regard.
Riau is another region that broke its record, with 57 additional deaths. Nationally, this region ranks eighth. The highest previous increase was recorded on Saturday, January 23rd, when the number of deaths rose from one to seven.

| Province-alias | Positivity Rate (7DMA) | Treatment (BOR/week) |

The weekly bed occupancy rate (BOR) in this region is still showing an upward trend. This morning, the BOR is 65.9%, lower than the previous day's 66%. This indicates that North Sumatra has seen improved service capacity in the last 15 days. Previously, the BOR in this region was 60.2%.
This situation is due to an increase in infections over the past week. According to the Ministry of Health, the weekly confirmed positive case rate per 100,000 people increased from 64.4 to 70.5 cases.
