Papua, the Province with the Highest Malaria Case Rate in Indonesia in 2025

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite and is transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the annual parasite incidence (API) of malaria in Indonesia reached 2.47 per 1,000 residents in 2025.

This means that out of every 1,000 Indonesians, about 2 people are affected by malaria.

However, this figure varies across different regions. The highest malaria incidence in 2025 was in Papua Province, reaching 269.44 per 1,000 residents.

Meanwhile, South Sumatra and Bengkulu became the provinces with the lowest malaria incidence, which was 0. This means that no cases of malaria were reported in these regions.
