European Covid-19 statistics this week still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 17 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Switzerland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Latvia, and Romania. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, August 4, 2022, amounted to 279, representing a weekly growth exceeding 81.4 percent.
Switzerland recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 400 percent. Worldometer recorded 10 deaths in the country, an increase from the two reported the previous week.
Next is Ukraine, which recorded deaths 300 percent higher than the previous week. The number of deaths reported was four, compared to one the previous week. Deaths in the Czech Republic increased by 91.84%, Latvia recorded 15 deaths (an 87.5% increase), and deaths in Romania increased by 81.4%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Italy, with 1,165 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 8.98% compared to the previous week. Following Italy, Germany reported 815 deaths (an 8.09% increase), France reported 601 deaths (a decrease of 11.36%), Spain reported 325 deaths (a decrease of 10.47%), and Russia reported 281 deaths (an increase of 2.18%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days reached 4,529. This accounts for 34.19 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 13,246. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,200.
