Based on the *2024 Indonesian Health Profile Report*, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) recorded that 3,389,523 pregnant women in Indonesia underwent Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) testing throughout 2024.

Of these tests, 2,584 (0.08%) pregnant women were declared HIV positive.

Provinces with the highest number of HIV-positive pregnant women are located in the Papua region. The breakdown is as follows: Papua Pegunungan at 1.88%; Papua at 1.16%; Central Papua at 0.71%; and West Papua at 0.49%.

Meanwhile, provinces with the lowest percentages are Aceh and Jambi, each at 0.01%, as well as South Sumatra and West Sulawesi with the same proportion, namely 0.02%.

According to the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), HIV testing for pregnant women aims to prevent the transmission of the virus from mother to baby.

HIV transmission can occur in three phases: during pregnancy, during childbirth, and through breast milk during breastfeeding.
