This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, seven countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 21 other countries recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Armenia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of September 4, 2022, amounted to 638, with weekly growth exceeding 3.9 percent.
Armenia ranks first, with a 40 percent increase in weekly deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded seven deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported five deaths.
Next is the Philippines, which recorded 15.08 percent more deaths than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 351, higher than the previous week's 305. Deaths in Vietnam increased by 14.29%, deaths in Hong Kong increased by 13.46%, and Taiwan recorded 213 deaths (up 3.9%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 2,001 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 0.2% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 527 deaths (up 1.54%), India recorded 368 deaths (down 12.8%), the Philippines recorded 351 deaths (up 15.08%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded 270 deaths (down 23.3%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 4,301. This accounts for 32.75 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 13,134. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,493.
