The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) recorded that 8.2 million people had participated in the free health check program (CGK) from its launch on February 10th to June 11th, 2025.
High blood pressure, or hypertension, was the most prevalent condition found among participants, accounting for 20.9% of the total.
"These individuals are at risk of stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. These are the leading causes of death in Indonesia and also incur significant healthcare costs," said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin in an online press conference on Thursday, June 12th, 2025.
High blood pressure was found across all age groups, from adolescents to the elderly.
Specifically, 6.3% of CGK participants aged 18-29 years old had high blood pressure. This was followed by 10.7% in the 30-39 age group and 26.5% in the 40-59 age group.
"Over the age of 40, one in three people has high blood pressure, which needs to be addressed," Budi stated.
The highest prevalence of high blood pressure was found among the elderly, reaching 43.6%.
Given the high prevalence of hypertension, Budi urged the public not to wait until they are sick to have a health check-up.
"If we know early, we can improve it, either by changing lifestyle or through medication," he said.
