According to a survey by the Indonesian Public Opinion Discussion and Study Group (KedaiKOPI), 85% of Indonesian respondents plan to travel home ("mudik") for Eid al-Fitr in 2025.
"Eid al-Fitr homecoming remains a very strong tradition in Indonesia, especially for maintaining family ties," said Ibnu Dwi Cahyo, KedaiKOPI's Research and Communication Director, in a statement on Thursday (March 20, 2025).
Most respondents, 24.4%, plan to depart for their homecoming seven days before Eid, followed by 17.1% who will leave three days before.
A significant number of respondents, 16.4%, also plan to travel home after Eid.
Fewer respondents will travel on other days, as shown in the graph.
The majority of respondents (54.5%) will use private vehicles for their homecoming trip. This is followed by public transportation (47.7%) and rented transportation (10.4%).
The KedaiKOPI survey involved 1,130 respondents across Indonesia, comprising 60% women and 40% men.
Data collection was conducted from March 5-13, 2025, using the Online-Computerized Assisted Self Interview (CASI) method.
Respondents were predominantly millennials (58.3%), followed by Generation Z (29.5%), and Generation X (12.2%).
