Malaria Morbidity Rates in 38 Indonesian Provinces, 2024: Papua Highest

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite, transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito.

According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the malaria morbidity rate or Annual Parasite Incidence (API) in Indonesia reached 1.73 per 1,000 population in 2024. The morbidity rate measures the population experiencing health problems, in this context malaria, in the last month that disrupted their daily activities.

This figure is higher than in 2023, which was 1.41 per 1,000 population.

By region, Papua had the highest national malaria morbidity rate, reaching 222.99 per 1,000 inhabitants. This is approximately 128.9 times higher than the national morbidity rate.

Meanwhile, the lowest malaria morbidity rate was in Bengkulu, approaching 0, meaning the number of malaria cases in this area is very low or even non-existent.
