The Jakarta Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) reported 214 cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI) caused by human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in January 2025. This comprises 13 cases in 2023, 122 cases in 2024, and 79 cases reported up to January 11, 2025.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati, stated that although several HMPV cases have been identified in Jakarta, the public can manage them through simple preventive measures. "We want to emphasize that the public should practice prevention, such as maintaining hand hygiene, adopting a healthy diet, and wearing masks when sick to prevent transmission," said Ani Ruspitawati in a statement on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
Furthermore, the office is also monitoring the public's health condition through community-based health education programs. This is carried out through posyandu (integrated community health centers), community health centers (puskesmas), community groups, and health cadres.
To follow up on the findings of HMPV-related ARI cases, the Jakarta Health Office is collaborating with hospitals and testing laboratories.
Respiratory panel test results show that the dominant viruses found were Rhinovirus, Influenza AH3, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) A+B, Influenza A (135 specimens), Influenza B (134 specimens), Influenza H1N1 pdm09 (128 specimens), and HMPV, among 23 types of agents or microorganisms that can cause ARI.
"If you experience symptoms such as persistent cough, runny nose, or fever, it is recommended that you immediately consult the nearest healthcare provider," said Ani.
