Manufactured Tourism Dominates Indonesia's Commercial Tourist Attractions in 2023

Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia had 4,206 commercial tourist attraction objects (ODTW) in 2023.

This number surged 43.54% from the previous year, which recorded 2,930 businesses. It even surpassed pre-Covid-19 levels, which stood at 2,945 ODTW businesses in 2019.

"The Indonesian tourism sector shows signs of post-Covid-19 recovery," wrote the BPS in its report titled *Tourism Attraction Object Statistics 2023*.

By type, the most numerous commercial tourist attractions in Indonesia were man-made attractions, with 1,457 companies last year.

Next were natural attractions, with 1,435 companies, followed by water attractions with 679 companies and cultural attractions with 310 companies.

Amusement and recreation parks recorded 263 companies, and tourism areas 62 companies.

BPS also noted that the province with the highest number of commercial ODTW companies last year was Central Java, with 245 companies. This was followed by East Java with 211 companies and West Java with 190 companies.

"These three provinces on Java Island show a high concentration of commercial natural tourist attractions with potential for further development as national tourism centers," wrote the BPS.
