With the increasing rate of Omicron in Indonesia, 166 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting weekly suspect testing percentages above the national average. Data for the week of July 31, 2022, shows a national average testing rate of 6.77 percent. This suspect testing data is calculated based on the number of suspected individuals and close contacts compared to the number of people tested in each region, which is then reported to the Ministry of Health.
The top five, starting from the highest, are Simalungun, Mandailing Natal, Pangandaran, Tasikmalaya, and Balangan, with percentages of 86.32 percent, 80.47 percent, 72.1 percent, 69.52 percent, and 55.93 percent, respectively.
Simalungun ranks first. With a population of 877,710, the weekly suspect testing percentage is 86.32 percent. The latest positive rate is 3.13 percent. The positive rate in this region increased compared to the previous week.
Next is Mandailing Natal. The population of this region is 460,360. In an effort to counter the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly suspect testing percentage is 80.47 percent. The positive rate in this region is 0.56 percent, also higher than the previous week's ratio.
Then, Pangandaran, with a population of 407,350, has a weekly suspect testing percentage of 72.1 percent; Tasikmalaya, 69.52 percent; and Balangan, with a population of 134,580, has a weekly suspect testing percentage of 55.93 percent.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on the national Covid data recapitulation, there are 196 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reporting higher daily weekly suspect testing percentages than before. Meanwhile, 158 other regencies/cities recorded lower weekly suspect testing percentages compared to the previous week.
Some of the regions outside Java with the highest weekly suspect testing percentages include Simalungun, Mandailing Natal, and Balangan, with weekly suspect testing percentages of 86.32 percent, 80.47 percent, and 55.93 percent, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.
