Since the Covid-19 pandemic arrived in Indonesia, a significant number of healthcare workers have reportedly died fighting the coronavirus.
According to data from Lapor Covid-19, the number of Indonesian healthcare workers who died from the coronavirus reached 2,087 by 9:36 AM WIB on April 21, 2022. Of this number, 751 people, or 35.98%, were doctors.
Furthermore, 670 nurses died from the coronavirus domestically. This is equivalent to 32.10% of the total healthcare workers who died from Covid-19.
Then, 398 midwives in Indonesia were reported to have died due to Covid-19. Following this, 51 medical laboratory technologists (ATLM) and 48 pharmacists died from the coronavirus.
There were also 46 dentists who died from coronavirus infection. Next, 12 radiology technicians and 8 dental therapists died due to Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 7 sanitation workers and 5 pharmacy personnel were reported to have died from the coronavirus. Ambulance personnel, electromedical technicians, and epidemiologists who died from Covid-19 numbered 4, 3, and 2 respectively.
In addition, one health entomologist and one medical physicist each succumbed to Covid-19. The remaining 80 healthcare workers also reportedly died from the coronavirus.
These fallen healthcare workers are heroes in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. To support their struggle, the public needs to participate in preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
This can be done by diligently implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
