The highest increase in confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in East Kalimantan is currently in Bontang City, with 45.41 cases per 100,000 population per week as of Tuesday, October 5, 2021. This figure is 20 cases higher than the second-highest region.
However, despite being the highest, the number of COVID-19 transmissions in Bontang City has decreased compared to the previous week, which was 83.16 cases per 100,000 population per week.
Berau is in second place. This region recorded 25.78 weekly confirmed cases per 100,000 population. Compared to the previous week, which reached 36.95 cases, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases this week is lower.
Rounding out the top five are Balikpapan City, East Kutai, and West Kutai. Each recorded weekly confirmation rates of 18.52 cases, 16.24 cases, and 12.64 cases, respectively.
According to the Ministry of Health's list, the next five regencies/cities in the top 10 are North Penajam Paser, Paser, Samarinda City, and Kutai Kartanegara. These regions recorded an average increase of more than four cases per 100,000 population.
