The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.92 million cases by Wednesday, May 24, 2023. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 0.36 percent. GISAID recorded 2.39 million Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.04 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the country grew by 0.18 percent. Yesterday's daily data recorded 1.44 million Omicron cases. France reported 353,770 Omicron cases (up 0.52%), while Canada saw a 1.18 percent increase to 286,990 cases compared to the previous week, and Australia saw a 2.15 percent increase to 145,580 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 37,370, a 0.48 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
