This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, five countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while five others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Malaysia, Thailand, Iran (Islamic Republic), the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of February 12, 2023, amounted to 159, with a weekly growth of over 9.09 percent.
Malaysia recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 166.67 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded eight deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported three deaths.
Thailand follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 112.5 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at 17. Deaths in Iran (Islamic Republic) increased by 91.67%, deaths in the Philippines increased by 20.73%, and Saudi Arabia recorded 12 deaths (up 9.09%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 1,269 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 33.25% compared to the previous week. Following that, South Korea had the second highest number of deaths with 139 (down 34.74%), the Philippines with 99 deaths (up 20.73%), Hong Kong with 35 deaths (down 48.53%), and Indonesia recorded 29 deaths (down 0%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,669. This accounts for 27.69 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 6,028. The death toll in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,374 deaths.
