Indonesia's active Covid-19 cases have increased today. According to the Covid-19 Task Force report, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia is now 17,909 as of Friday, May 5, 2023.
The total number of Covid-19 cases reported today has reached 6.78 million. Of these, 161,400 people have died and 6.6 million have recovered.
With the increase in active Covid-19 cases domestically, the public must remain vigilant. Especially since the coronavirus has the potential to remain contagious in the post-Eid al-Fitr period like now.
Adherence to health protocols is still expected to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, namely by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is also urged to get booster vaccinations to strengthen immunity and reduce the severity of coronavirus infection.
Last year, the increase in Covid-19 transmission in Indonesia was caused by two new Omicron subvariants, namely BA.4 and BA.5. The lowest number of active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia was previously recorded at 2,871 cases on May 30, 2022. After that, active Covid-19 cases began to rise and reached their peak on November 24, 2022, along with an increase in confirmed positive cases in the country.
Throughout April 2023, the Ministry of Health also recorded an increase. Therefore, the public needs to be vigilant. The public is urged to continue to strive to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by implementing health protocols such as wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds, and limiting mobility.
