The number of nurses in Indonesia reached 438,234,000 in 2020, according to a report by the Ministry of Health. So, how is the distribution of nurses throughout the country?
The national distribution of nurses is still concentrated in Java. The number reaches 217,079 nurses, contributing approximately 49.53% of the total national nurses.
Sumatra ranks second with 96,937 nurses.
Sulawesi ranks third with a total of 45,356 nurses. Following this, Kalimantan has 33,669 nurses.
Then, 28,697 nurses are located in Bali and Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, there are 16,496 nurses in Maluku and Papua.
Based on province, the highest number of nurses is in East Java, with 55,833. Conversely, the lowest number of nurses is in North Kalimantan, with only 1,992.
The distribution of nurses in Indonesia is still uneven nationally. This can lead to inequalities in healthcare services in several areas of Indonesia.
Despite this, nurses are one of the front lines in the healthcare world. Therefore, their services are invaluable to the nation, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic. It should be noted that March 17, 2021, is commemorated as National Nurses Day, which is also the birthday of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI).
