With the increasing rate of Omicron in Indonesia, 170 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting weekly testing exceeding the national average. Data as of Friday, April 8, 2022, shows a national average of 104.27 percent. This testing achievement data is calculated based on the number of people tested compared to each region's weekly target, which is then reported to the Ministry of Health.
The top five, starting from the highest, are Bontang City, Tarakan City, Teluk Wondama, Jayapura City, and Manokwari, with ratios of 982.42 percent, 866.17 percent, 845.71 percent, 717.21 percent, and 682.29 percent, respectively.
Bontang City ranks first. With a population of 185,460, the weekly percentage of people tested is 982.42 percent. The latest positive rate is 1.12 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week's ratio.
Next is Tarakan City. The population of this region is 267,270. In an effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly percentage of people tested is 866.17 percent. The positive rate in this region is recorded at one percent, also down from the previous week's percentage.
Furthermore, the weekly percentage of people tested in Teluk Wondama is 845.71 percent; Jayapura City, with a population of 309,760, has a weekly testing percentage of 717.21 percent; and Manokwari, with a population of 176,240, has a weekly testing percentage of 682.29 percent.
In anticipation of the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on the national Covid data recapitulation, there are 324 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reporting higher weekly testing percentages than before. Meanwhile, 59 other regencies/cities recorded lower weekly testing percentages compared to the previous week.
Some of the regions outside Java with the highest weekly testing percentages include Bontang City, Tarakan City, and Teluk Wondama, with weekly testing percentages of 982.42 percent, 866.17 percent, and 845.71 percent, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the spread of the coronavirus.
