COVID-19 reports indicate that 2,029 healthcare workers in Indonesia had died from the coronavirus by 2:30 PM WIB on September 15, 2021. Of this number, 730 (35.9%) were doctors.
Furthermore, 667 nurses died from the coronavirus in Indonesia. This represents 32.8% of the total healthcare workers who died from the virus.
A total of 388 midwives also succumbed to the coronavirus. Additionally, 48 pharmacists and 47 medical laboratory technologists (MLTs) died from the coronavirus.
46 dentists died from the coronavirus. Ten radiologic technologists and five sanitation workers also died from the virus.
Four dental therapists and four ambulance personnel died from the coronavirus. Three electromedical technicians and three pharmacy personnel also died from the virus.
One medical physicist and one entomologist also died from the coronavirus. Meanwhile, there were 70 other deaths among healthcare workers attributed to the coronavirus.
These fallen healthcare workers are heroes in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in Indonesia. To support their struggle, the public needs to participate in preventing COVID-19.
This can be done by diligently implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
