COVID-19 statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 16 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 13 other countries recorded deaths, but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Netherlands, Malta, Lithuania, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, June 16, 2022, amounted to 45, with a weekly growth exceeding 75 percent.
The Netherlands ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 233.33 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 10 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported three deaths.
Malta follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 150 percent. The number of deaths reported in this country was five, while the previous week recorded two deaths.
Rounding out the top five, Lithuania recorded nine deaths (up 125%), Slovakia saw a 100% increase in deaths, and the Czech Republic recorded seven deaths (up 75%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Europe occurred in Germany, with 499 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 8.95% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, Russia recorded 480 deaths (down 10.45%), Italy recorded 416 deaths (up 0.73%), the UK recorded 365 deaths (up 9.28%), and Spain recorded 325 deaths (up 1.56%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was recorded at 3,120. This accounts for 35.22 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 8,858 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which totaled 3,199 deaths.
