The spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is increasingly widespread in Jakarta. As a result, the capital city once again contributes the highest number of active Covid-19 cases nationally.
Based on data from the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 6,108 on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Jakarta contributed 1,885 active Covid-19 cases, or approximately 30.86% of the total national active cases.
Central Java ranks second as the province with the most active cases of people infected with the coronavirus, with 1,037 cases. Then, Riau Islands and Lampung each have 759 and 529 active Covid-19 cases, respectively.
Next, West Java and Riau have 521 and 322 active Covid-19 cases, respectively. Banten, North Sulawesi, Papua, and East Java are also included in the list of provinces with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases, with 156, 127, 112, and 98 cases respectively.
The total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 4,266,195 by January 9, 2022. 3.37% of these cases resulted in death, and 96.47% have recovered.
The increasing transmission of Covid-19 cases, especially the Omicron variant, should be watched out for. Therefore, the government continues to urge the public to always implement the 3M health protocol to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
This involves wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is also encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
