Kupang's air quality was the cleanest in Indonesia last night. According to the air quality index from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Kupang scored 23 on Friday, September 15th, 2023, at 7 PM WIB.
At that time, Kupang's air quality was categorized as good, meaning pollutant levels in the air were very minimal. Surabaya was ranked second with an air quality index of 24. Balikpapan followed in third place with an air quality index of 40.

While the air quality in these cities was among the cleanest in Indonesia, not all cities had good air quality.
Based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollutant Standard Index, KLHK applies the following air quality index classification:
* 0-50: Good
* 51-100: Moderate
* 101-200: Unhealthy
* 201-300: Very Unhealthy
* 300+: Hazardous
This means that on Friday, September 15th, 2023, at 7 PM WIB, cities with good air quality were Kupang, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Tanjung Pinang, Ternate, Banyuasin, Banda Aceh, and Mamuju. The other two cities, Barito Selatan and Manado, had moderate air quality.
