According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in August 2023, the number of open unemployment in Indonesia reached 7.86 million people, equivalent to 5.32% of the total national workforce.
Broken down by province, the highest unemployment rate was in Banten, at 7.52%.
Other provinces with relatively high unemployment rates at the national scale include West Java (7.44%), Riau Islands (6.8%), DKI Jakarta (6.53%), and Maluku (6.31%).
Following these are North Sulawesi (6.1%), Aceh (6.03%), West Sumatra (5.94%), North Sumatra (5.89%), and West Papua (5.38%).
The figures recorded here represent the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT), which is the ratio of the number of unemployed to the number of people in the workforce in each province.
These figures include unemployed individuals meeting the following criteria:
* People without jobs who are actively seeking employment;
* People without jobs who are preparing to start a business;
* People without jobs who are not seeking employment because they feel it is impossible to find a job; and
* People who already have a job but have not yet started working.
