Banning single-use plastics can be implemented as one way to address the waste problem. According to an Ipsos survey, 75% of people worldwide agree that single-use plastics should be banned as soon as possible.
The highest level of agreement regarding the ban on single-use plastics was seen in Colombia. The survey results show that 89% of respondents in that country agreed with the ban on single-use plastics.
This is followed by Chile and Mexico, both with 88%. Then, Argentina and China, both at 84%.
The Ipsos survey also shows that 85% of global respondents want producers and retailers to be responsible for reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic packaging. Furthermore, 88% of surveyed respondents stated that it is important to have an international agreement to combat plastic pollution.
It should be noted that the use of single-use plastics contributes to the growth of plastic waste, which has an impact on the environment. Plastic waste can cause soil pollution because it is difficult to decompose by microorganisms.
This survey involved 20,513 respondents under the age of 75, spread across 28 countries. The survey was released on February 28, 2022.
