The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.69 million cases by Saturday, December 24, 2022. Spain recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 13.96 percent. GISAID recorded 87,689 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1.02 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is the Republic of Moldova, which recorded a 10.97 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.94 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in China (PRC) increased by 8.13 percent to 745 cases compared to the previous week; in Argentina, Omicron cases increased by 5.84 percent to 5,889 cases compared to the previous week; and in Morocco, there were 1,099 additional Omicron cases (a 5.57% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 31,175, a 0.28 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
