The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.51 million cases by Saturday, July 16, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 3.59 percent. GISAID recorded 1.35 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.43 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 0.85 percent. The number of Omicron cases reported in the UK is 1.24 million. Daily statistics show a 0.13 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.24 million.
Next, Germany reported 334,950 Omicron cases (up 0.18%), Denmark with 258,380 cases (up 1.71%), and France saw a 5.41 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 158,450 compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia reached 15,292, a 1.18 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
