The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reported 57 confirmed monkeypox cases in Indonesia as of November 22, 2023.
All patients were male, with the majority belonging to the millennial generation (born 1981-1996, currently aged 27-42 years).
The details are as follows: 24 cases were aged 30-39 years, 17 cases were aged 25-29 years, 13 cases were aged 18-24 years, 2 cases were aged 40-49 years, and 1 case was aged 50 years and above.
"We have not yet received any reports of monkeypox cases in women," said Achmad Farchanny Tri Adryanto, Director of Health Quarantine Surveillance at the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health, as reported by *Kompas.com* on Thursday (23/11/2023).
Based on sexual orientation, 35 cases were categorized as men who have sex with men (MSM), 11 cases were bisexual, and 7 cases were heterosexual. Two other cases are unknown, and 2 remaining cases are still under investigation.
"The average of the 57 confirmed cases presented with comorbidities," said Farchanny.
Monkeypox patients with comorbidities included 39 cases with HIV positive status, 16 cases with syphilis, 2 cases with hypertension, and 2 cases with active tuberculosis.
Farchanny also reported 8 suspected monkeypox cases awaiting laboratory test results, and 191 individuals who tested negative.
By region, the highest number of monkeypox cases was recorded in DKI Jakarta (42 cases), followed by Banten (6 cases), West Java (6 cases), East Java (2 cases), and Riau Islands (1 case).
