This week, three countries recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Peru, Uruguay, Guatemala, Chile, and Mexico. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, February 2, 2023, was 646, with a weekly growth rate above -15.92 percent.
Peru ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 131.13 percent. Worldometer recorded 245 deaths in the country, an increase of 28.27 percent compared to the previous day.
Uruguay follows with a weekly growth in deaths of 100 percent. The country reported eight deaths, compared to four the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Guatemala saw a 23.81% increase in deaths, Chile recorded 124 deaths (down 8.15%), and Mexico recorded 243 deaths (down 15.92%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,701 deaths. This represents a 16.45% decrease compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded 555 deaths (down 43.19%), Peru recorded 245 deaths (up 131.13%), Mexico recorded 243 deaths (down 15.92%), and Chile recorded 124 deaths (down 8.15%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 2,911. This accounts for 39.99 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 7,280. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which saw 3,582 deaths.
