The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.2 million cases by Saturday, September 10, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States has recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 1.66 million cases. This represents 31.99 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 0.28 percent. Daily Omicron case numbers in the UK rose by 0.02 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 1.29 million cases.
Germany reported 424,840 Omicron cases (a 1.01% increase), Denmark 285,600 cases (a 1.24% increase), and France saw a 0.92 percent increase to 267,010 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 21,211, a 0.1 percent increase compared to the previous day. Omicron cases have been steadily rising in Indonesia since it was first detected.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
