This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show that most countries recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries still recorded an increase in deaths, and three others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Peru, Mexico, Chile, the United States, and Guatemala. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, March 14, 2023, amounted to 934, with a weekly growth rate above -55.56 percent.
Peru ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 46.88 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 94 deaths, a 34.29 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Mexico follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 25.44 percent. The daily death toll increased by 2.88% compared to the previous day, recording 139 deaths.
Next is Chile with 76 deaths (up 7.04%), the United States with 617 deaths (down 11.48%), and Guatemala with a 55.56% decrease in deaths.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 617 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 11.48% compared to the previous week. Following this, Mexico reported the highest number with 143 deaths (up 25.44%), Peru with 94 deaths (up 46.88%), Chile with 76 deaths (up 7.04%), and Brazil with 34 deaths (down 87.41%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days reached 968. This accounts for 33.04 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,930. The death toll in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,225 deaths.
