The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.36 million cases by Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Qatar ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 91.1 percent. GISAID recorded 923 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.11 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Benin, which recorded a 44.04 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 31.97 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in the Dominican Republic increased by 19.57 percent to 1,100 cases compared to the previous week; Omicron cases in North Macedonia increased by 16.57 percent to 211 cases compared to the previous week; and Peru saw an increase of 23,319 Omicron cases (up 9.74%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 29,599, a 1.12 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
