Research by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) shows that the public perceives banks and financial institutions as the entities collecting the most personal data. This was voiced by 67.2% of respondents.
Despite this, respondents feel that banks and financial institutions are trustworthy and provide adequate personal data protection. This is reflected in the choice of 80.3% of respondents.
Besides banks and financial institutions, 49.1% of respondents also considered healthcare institutions (hospitals/clinics/community health centers) as entities collecting the most personal data. Then, 43.6% of respondents considered telecommunication operators as collecting the most personal data.
Furthermore, 38.1% of respondents stated that insurance companies collect the most personal data. This is followed by e-commerce and government institutions with percentages of respondent choices of 35.3% and 32%, respectively.
The next institution considered to collect the most personal data is the police, with a relatively low percentage of respondent choices at only 25%. However, the police are considered to have adequate data protection, with a considerably high percentage of respondent choices at 69.9%.
Next, 14.1% of respondents assessed private companies as collecting the most personal data. While another 4% believed that no institution collects a significant amount of personal data.
This research was conducted on 11,305 respondents spread across 34 provinces in Indonesia. The research was conducted online from July 14-21, 2021, using non-probability sampling.
