The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported 433.57 million domestic trips by Indonesian tourists (or local tourists) during the first half of 2023. This figure represents a 12.57% increase year-on-year (yoy) compared to the previous period's 385.16 million trips.
Based on destination, East Java recorded the highest number of local tourist visits, reaching 116.70 million visits, equivalent to 26.92% of total domestic tourist trips.
West Java followed as the second most visited province by local tourists, with 75.46 million visits, contributing 17.40% to the total domestic trips during this period.
Central Java came in third, recording 63.10 million visits.
"Generally, domestic tourism in Indonesia during the first half of 2023 was still dominated by tourist travel flows on Java Island," wrote BPS in its report, *National Tourism and Transportation Developments June 2023*.
Meanwhile, Bali ranked ninth, with 9.71 million local tourist visits in the first half of 2023.
