The trend of COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia has been declining since mid-December 2022. However, thousands of new infections are still reported weekly.
According to Worldometers, there were 2,991 new positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia during the period of January 6-12, 2023. This figure is down 17% compared to the previous week, which saw 3,602 new cases between December 30, 2022 and January 5, 2023.
This weekly increase ranks fourth in Southeast Asia, as shown in the graph.
Singapore ranks highest with 4,872 new COVID-19 cases in the last week. The Philippines follows with 3,351 new cases, and Malaysia with 3,220 cases.
Below Indonesia are Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste, with 997, 455, 76, 34, 33, and 7 new COVID-19 cases respectively.
Brunei Darussalam is the only Southeast Asian country without any new COVID-19 cases reported in the last week.
Although the trend of COVID-19 transmission domestically has decreased, the public is urged to remain vigilant against the emergence of the new COVID-19 Kraken variant, or XBB.1.5.
The public can continue to implement health protocols in their daily activities, and participate in the full vaccination and booster programs to reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 infection.
