The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.69 million cases by Wednesday, August 3, 2022. According to GISAID data, American Samoa recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 84 new cases. This represents 0 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Japan follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in Japan increased by 22.3 percent, with 154,210 new cases reported. Daily statistics show a 0.61 percent increase compared to the previous day's 153,280 cases.
Furthermore, Ecuador saw a 19.59 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 2,515 compared to the previous week; Senegal saw a 16.45 percent increase, reaching 361 cases; and Qatar saw a 12.26 percent increase, reaching 357 cases.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 17,166 as of yesterday, a 0.44 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
