Indonesia has detected 2,877,476 cases of Covid-19 based on Worldometers data as of Monday, July 19, 2021, at 09:29 WIB. 542,236 cases, or 18.8%, are active, requiring hospitalization or self-isolation. This number places Indonesia fourth in the world with the highest number of active coronavirus cases.
Jakarta contributed the most new Covid-19 cases, with an additional 9,128 cases. West Java and East Java followed with 7,777 and 5,726 cases respectively, up to July 18, 2021.
The Covid-19 surge boosted the number of cases in Indonesia. The Ministry of Health recorded an additional 44,721 new cases, along with 1,093 deaths in a single day. Meanwhile, 29,264 cases recovered during the same period.
The United States still holds the first position with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases globally. The country recorded 34.96 million cases, with 4,962,571 cases, or 14.2%, being active. This proportion increased from the previous week, which was 14%.
The government continues to urge the public to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and wash their hands with soap and running water. Everyone is also expected to reduce mobility and avoid crowds to curb the spread of Covid-19.
