The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.05 million cases by Friday, July 15, 2022. Kazakhstan ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 77.89 percent. GISAID recorded 507 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 6.29 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Jamaica, which recorded a 51.01 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 15.27 percent compared to the previous day.
Following this are Lebanon with 144 additional Omicron cases (a 33.33% increase), Peru with 9,397 additional Omicron cases (a 19.77% increase), and Botswana with 2,388 additional Omicron cases (a 15.92% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 15,113, a 0.16 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
