This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, seven countries recorded an increase in deaths, while three others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Thailand, Malaysia, Iran (Islamic Republic), Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, February 13, 2023, amounted to 159, with a weekly growth exceeding 16.67 percent.
Thailand ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 325 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 17 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported four deaths.
Malaysia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 166.67 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at eight. Deaths in Iran (Islamic Republic) increased by 140%, deaths in Saudi Arabia increased by 20%, and deaths in the Philippines increased by 16.67%.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,218 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 33.73% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths in South Korea was recorded at 140, down 32.04%; the Philippines recorded 98 deaths (up 16.67%); Israel recorded 33 deaths (up 13.79%); and Indonesia recorded 32 deaths (up 10.34%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,625. This accounts for 29.25 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 5,556. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 2,281.
