Quoting data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), as of 2021, there were 3,521 star-classified hotels in Indonesia.
This number accounts for 12.75% of all accommodation providers in Indonesia, which totaled 27,607 business units.
The most numerous star-classified hotels were three-star hotels, totaling 1,409 units. This number is equivalent to 40.02% of the total number of star-rated hotels in Indonesia.
This was followed by 762 four-star hotels (21.64%), 760 two-star hotels (21.58%), 370 one-star hotels (10.5%), and 220 five-star hotels (6.24%).
In total, all these star-classified hotels have 345,062 rooms.
Besides star-rated hotels, accommodation providers in Indonesia also consist of 11,785 melati-class hotels and 12,301 other accommodation services.
The highest number of accommodation providers was in East Java, with 3,815 businesses in 2021. This was followed by Bali with 3,345 businesses, and West Java with 3,088 businesses.
The lowest number of accommodation providers was recorded in Gorontalo province, with only 125 businesses last year.
