Based on data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), the national total waste accumulation from 200 regencies/cities in 2021 amounted to 21.45 million tons. Central Java had the highest amount, reaching 3.17 million tons.
East Java produced 2.63 million tons of waste, ranking second. This was followed by DKI Jakarta, which produced 2.59 million tons.
Waste accumulation in West Java was recorded at 2.1 million tons. North Sumatra followed with 1.23 million tons of waste.
Banten produced 1.07 million tons of waste. Meanwhile, waste accumulation in South Sumatra was recorded at 1.06 million tons.
Top 10 Provinces with the Highest Waste Accumulation (2021):
1. Central Java: 3.17 million tons
2. East Java: 2.63 million tons
3. DKI Jakarta: 2.59 million tons
4. West Java: 2.1 million tons
5. North Sumatra: 1.23 million tons
6. Banten: 1.07 million tons
7. South Sumatra: 1.06 million tons
8. South Sulawesi: 1.03 million tons
9. Riau: 950 thousand tons
10. West Sumatra: 720 thousand tons
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) recorded that of the total national waste accumulation produced in 2021, 7.13 million tons (33.26%) remained unmanaged. Meanwhile, 14.3 million tons (66.74%) were managed waste.
The national waste reduction achievement last year only reached 3.25 million tons or 15.17%. Meanwhile, the waste management achievement was recorded at 11.06 million tons or 51.57%.
