This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), Israel, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and India. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, February 24, 2023, were 84, with a weekly growth rate above -14.29 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 94.44 percent. Worldometer recorded 35 deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported 18 deaths.
Israel follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 22.22 percent. Daily death figures in this country increased by 83.33% compared to the previous day's 12 deaths.
Next is Lebanon with 11 deaths (up 22.22%), Saudi Arabia with 0% change in deaths, and India with a 14.29% decrease in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 743 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 33.84% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea reported 105 deaths (down 15.32%), the Philippines reported 64 deaths (down 32.63%), Iran (Islamic Republic) reported 35 deaths (up 94.44%), and Israel reported 22 deaths (up 22.22%).
Total COVID-19 deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,038. This accounts for 21.89 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 4,741 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,473 deaths.
