The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.38 million cases by Saturday, November 26, 2022. Cape Verde ranks first, with a 14.59 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 479 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 10.37 percent compared to the previous day.
Uganda follows with a 9.62 percent weekly growth in Omicron cases. The country reported 399 new Omicron cases. Daily statistics show a 9.62 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 364 cases.
Next, Omicron cases in Mauritius increased by 4.66 percent to 4,064 cases compared to the previous week; Omicron cases in Japan increased by 2.88 percent to 280,080 cases compared to the previous week; and Omicron cases in North Korea increased by 2.85 percent to 66,336 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 28,182, a 0.36 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
